Musson Celebrates 50 Years of Excellence January 2023

Musson Celebrates 50 Years of Excellence

Musson is proud to be celebrating 50 years of creating some of the world’s most beautiful, rare and sought-after jewellery.

Musson is honouring this milestone with an exclusive event for 150 selected guests, at one of Australia’s most celebrated restaurants, Quay in Sydney, on November 30 with the unveiling of its latest creation, the extraordinary $1.85 million Diavik Midnight SunTM.

“I am enormously proud of what we have built over the last 50 years,” says Musson founder, Robert Musson.

“There is a longevity to fine jewellery that I love. Jewellery is about celebrating the most important moments in life. We are privileged to have played a part in these moments,” he says.

Musson is marking this momentous occasion with a refresh of its brand, with a sophisticated new colour palette, updated brand assets and redesigned website, to ensure the brand story captures its history, as well as showing its clear intent for the future.

They have also created a new collection to celebrate its anniversary, aptly named ‘Joy’. The collection features a ring, necklace and earrings designed to evoke a delicate flower, each with five “petals” representing a decade of Musson jewellery, and its joy-inspiring moments.

Musson was started in 1972 by Robert & Kerry Musson, when they opened a little shop nestled between a newsagent and a shoe store, in Crows Nest. Sydney fell in love at first sight.

In 1982, Musson opened its flagship Chatswood Chase Boutique and, later, another in Sydney’s Queen Victoria Building. Both stores will receive a significant refit in early 2023 as part of the Musson brand refresh.

“We are proud of our rich history, but also want to be seen as the sophisticated, contemporary, creative and growing brand we are,” says Musson Creative Director, Olivar Musson.

Musson is a true family business with sons Damien and Olivar, and Olivar’s wife, Catherine, now directing the company. Together, they are writing Musson’s next chapter as it builds on an incredible history of beauty, quality and craftsmanship.

“We are driven by passion,” says Damien Musson. “Making magical objects people will treasure today, and for the rest of their lives, is a profound pleasure and responsibility.”

Central to Musson’s history is their proud association with Argyle Pink Diamonds. Musson was one of the first jewellers in the world to be invited to become an Argyle Select Atelier and for almost four decades they have had the privilege of access to these magnificent diamonds, the rarest in the world.

In 2020 they wrote one of the final chapters in the Argyle story, when they acquired, cut, set and ultimately sold the Argyle OctaviaTM, the largest gem quality white diamond in Argyle’s history. The Argyle Diamond Mine closed forever in 2020.

Musson’s focus on mine to market endeavours continues with the Diavik Midnight Sun. Originally weighing 36.75 carats when unearthed from Rio Tinto’s Canadian Diavik Mine, this incredible diamond crystal was cut into a magnificent 18.08ct fancy intense yellow diamond and set with 4.09ct of stunning Argyle Pink diamonds in an incredible ring.

“As one of the very first luxury jewellers entrusted with Argyle pink diamonds, Musson are master craftsmen who have captured the enticing colour and light of these intriguing gems in their unique jewellery designs,” says Rio Tinto’s General Manager of Diamonds Sales and Marketing, Patrick Coppens.

There could not be a more fitting piece for Musson to unveil in celebration of 50 years.

“I’m tremendously excited about the future. To be able to celebrate this milestone for our business with a piece of the calibre of the Diavik Midnight Sun is a wonderful piece of synchronicity. The piece is a shining symbol of who we are and why we love what we do. It feels like we’re just getting started,” says Robert Musson.
